Lime Soap Glue Paint
Environmentally and climate-friendly paint for listed and heritage buildings
Many listed and heritage buildings are originally designed to breathe. They function in natural balance with their surroundings – without plastic-based paints, vapour barriers, or mechanical ventilation.
ACT Colour has developed a new Lime Soap Glue Paint with respect for traditional craftsmanship, adapted to meet today’s requirements for durability and climate responsibility.
The Lime Soap Glue Paint is based on classic limewash but is technically enhanced to provide high abrasion resistance and can be applied to both masonry and wood.
It is available for both interior and exterior use and preserves the building’s original character.
The product has been developed in close collaboration with leading experts and consultants to ensure high standards of building-technical, chemical, and environmental quality.

Welcome to ACT colour and our world
ACT Colour operates at the intersection of colour theory, materiality and spatial perception. Drawing on research-based knowledge about the impact of colour on mental and physical wellbeing, we develop colour palettes and tools for architects, painters and design professionals.
We regard colour as a spatial strategy – not merely as decoration.
ACT Colour paints are based on natural pigments and traditional techniques, reinterpreted within a contemporary, sustainable context. The products are free from harmful chemicals, vapour-permeable – and developed with a focus on durability, aesthetic integrity and minimum environmental impact.
Our work stems from a fundamental need to consider and practise colour application in a climate- and environmentally conscious way – without compromising on aesthetics or architectural quality.
Natural colours and shades
ACT Colour is rooted in the colour theories of Goethe and Albers, where colour is understood as a perceptual and relational experience – created in the tension between light and dark – and where the interaction of colours produces optical illusions.
Our collection is based on natural minerals and inorganic pigments with documented stability and depth. The shades are developed to respond to daylight, time of day and season, appearing vibrant through their mineral surfaces – entirely without synthetic binders.
The first collection comprises 33 plant glue paints developed in collaboration with designers from the Royal Danish Academy, as well as 12 lime soap glue paint tones developed in collaboration with architect Søren Vadstrup. The colours are created to withstand trends and to form part of architectural wholes over time.
ACT Colour colour-setting tools
In collaboration with Innovation Fund Denmark, ACT Colour has developed a tactile colour-setting tool consisting of 33 hand-mixed shades.
The tools – Sticks, Cubes and Papers – enable us to work physically and spatially with colour relationships. The focus is on interaction, light and materiality rather than isolated colour samples.
We host workshops in which colours are explored through a sensory and analytical process directly linked to specific projects – including how to transfer colour choices into a given context. The tools have, among other projects, been used in VELUX’s sustainable demonstration building, Living Places.

ACT Colour natural paint
Conventional paint often contains acrylic/plastic and chemicals that affect indoor climate and carbon footprint. This is why ACT Colour has developed two nature-based paint types with a VOC value* close to 0 g/litre (limit value: 30 g/litre).
The two paint types have been developed in collaboration with – among others – Innovation Fund Denmark, Realdania, Søren Vadstrup, Altox, Artelia, Eurofins and the Danish Technological Institute. Both products are manufactured in Denmark.
No acrylic. No plastic. Created for people and with respect for the environment.

The impact of pigments
Colour is an active architectural parameter with documented significance for perception, mood and behaviour, and colour psychology is crucial to the sensory spatiality and atmosphere of a space.
Research shows that people assess a room within seconds – and that colour plays a decisive role in this process. Colours can also influence both psychological wellbeing and physiological responses.
Drawing on Goethe’s understanding of colour as a subjective and sensory experience, ACT Colour works with colour as a relational and space-creating phenomenon.
At ACT Colour, colour is not merely surface. Colour is space.
